We have a different photo theme bimontly and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations around Sacramento. It's a great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What痴 involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You値l then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You値l receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We池e a social bunch!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

We also occasionally hold more formal beginners classes which last 3 hours and are limited to 6 people. These classes are perfect for complete beginners who want to start using manual mode and those who want to brush up on the basics. See the dates below.

Easy Studio Lighting - Rocklin - 9:00 am - 3 Hours
Great photography requires great light; it defines form and texture, sets mood and can make or break the image. This 2 hour practical hands-on course is being taught by professional photographer Laurie Gallant. It will focus on portrait photography in a studio environment, using camera mounted flashes and studio flash. You'll learn to understand the direction, quality and colour of light on a subject and surrounds, and how this affects a portrait. We値l approach all the key topics slowly and thoroughly so that you have time to build a terrific understanding of how lighting affects your photos. Most of what you learn can then be applied outside the studio environment in your everyday photography. There is no need to have any prior studio or flash experience whatsoever.

Sunset Photography
A beautiful sunset can be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Photographers refer to the last (dusk) hours of the day as the "golden hours" when the light is at its best for photography. Our light meters can be thrown off by the strong amount of light hitting our sensor, so we will be exploring manual mode and exposure compensation to intensify the colours of our sunset.
