Laurie Gallant
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

I loved the variety of photo ops. Water, vegetation, asphalt, and a play area that provided abstract opportunities. Laurie spent some quality time with the new comers.

This was a very good class that helped me with so many things related to portrait photography. Also introduced me to a new location to take people for portraits. Laurie is such a wonderful instructor, so kind and patient and such a great personality. I will be taking as many of her classes as I can. Highly recommend.

Great event with Laurie Gallant. She was so patient and gave great feedback. It can't be easy working with people of varying background levels as well as different equipment but she did so with patience and seemingly little effort, giving attention to each of us. I appreciated her time and and can't wait to attend another class. Thank you Laurie!!!

I enjoyed the practice and opportunity to learn from Laurie and others. After looking at some of the group members photos, I realize I missed a lot! I was expecting a more traditional garden that was well kept, sometimes the weeds were in the way. I probably wouldn't go back, pretty far to drive.

    Title or Location: Kaycee, Wyoming
This photo was taken at a friend's house in Kaycee, Wyoming. I met this amazing cowboy at a photography workshop in 2019 in Wyoming and quickly became friends. I try to go and see him every year to spend time with him, help work cattle on horseback and just glean some wisdom from him. These set of horses are his own foal crop that he trains for working and moving cattle on thousands of acres of land. I took this photo with a rented Sigma Art 150-600mm lens, an absolute beast of a lens that wa

Title or Location: My backyard in Lincoln, California
I took this photo when I was first starting out with hummingbird photography. My yard has a few Salvia Black and Blue plants that pretty much bloom all year and the hummingbirds love them. They frequent them in the morning so lighting where these plants are located can be challenging. I shot this with my Nikon D750 with the Nikon 200-500 5.6 lens. I found that shooting at 1/4000 sec at f7-10 (manual) gave me the speed necessary for these lightning fast birds with the right amount of depth of f

    Title or Location: The Wave
Many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts know about this famous hike to the Wave located in Utah /Arizona , but not everyone is able to get there to do the hike based on only 60 people are allowed to hike it daily . A lotto ticket needs to be applied and the chance of getting picked is at a slim 4 ! I was lucky to hike to the wave last August for the first time and again this August ! It had rained 2 days prior to my hike so there?s a little pool of water collected between the beautiful sand stone b

I wanted to frame the September full moon rise behind the Sydney Opera House but since the waterside at Circular Quay was cordoned off, I had to choose an alternate position but was satisfied with the end result of capturing the moon appearing right between the main big sails.

Got to Wellington point and the tide was nice and low, the sun was blazing and about to set.I walked along the sand bar to try and get the right framing with the sun in the background as the surfers jumped out of the water. The photos looked quite bland out of the camera but once processed I was able to bring out some awesome colors from the sunset.
